For this being the 2nd addition to this series, I feel inclined to reiterate the purpose behind it. I love art in all its forms and I appreciate the time, dedication and every person's unique style and story. The process is what I am here for. This personal project is not only about connection, but doing what you love and sharing it with as many people as possible. For the artists featured in this series, I asked to be brought into their space, play their favorite music, wear what they would wear on their most comfortable days and chat about anything (not hard for me). Show me where your ideas become certain. Oly.B thank you for vibing out with me for a couple hours. Your ability to take your “life episodes”, as you call it, and personal experiences, then channel that into art inspires me. I also believe it can take people into another world if they choose to look a little deeper.
I spent an afternoon shooting with Oly.B in her shared Hollywood studio. Her creative space within the studio was covered in paint splatters, an easel, a paint palette and a series of canvases all wrapped in bright pink walls. The rest of the studio was very industrial, littered with live art pieces, giant canvases and I cant forget about the small pink couch to tie it all together. Her ability to channel so much emotion into her work while still carrying such a calm demeanor surprised me. The way she is able to embody the mix of pleasure and pain, joy and sadness, bliss and chaos in her work is noteworthy. Her pieces are truly a story. She has her own flow. These pieces are truly one of a kind. In this space it is impossible to not feel creative.
