Where ideas become certain

01 - Berto Reed

A little about this series.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve discovered a lot about my creative vision. The ever evolving process. The constant discoveries that push my boundaries. An lastly, how important it is to find your personal place of stillness. For someone like myself who is always on the move, this has always been a personal struggle. There have been many artists that have inspired this new perspective shift of mine. They not only do what i believe is amazing work, but after becoming lucky enough to call a few of them friends, I wanted to do what I love and capture moments of them in their creative space. Many of them are very private, so I appreciate their vulnerability and invitation to where their ideas become certain. This personal project of mine is not only about connection, but doing what you love and sharing it with as many people as possible.
Kicking this series off with my friend Berto Reed. A street artist, painter, surfer, visionary and a deep soul. Berto and I met early in 2022. Through our many deep conversations about life and art, I really loved his authenticity of where he was on his creative journey. I could really see all the love he put into his art. When I pitched this series to him, without hesitation, he said "lets do it!" His converted studio space located in Santa Monica reminded me of the beach town I grew up in. Surf boards in the yard, fire pit and chairs out on the lawn, and a pull up garage door to enter this concealed colorful space. With the paint splatters on the wall and floor, the poems on the wall written in what I could only imagine were bursts of inspirational moments, I could tell this was his place away from it all. Well, getting to know him more, it'll either be here or in the ocean surfing! I'm grateful to have started off this project with him. He will be moving to his new studio in Portugal very soon. We will definitely be checking back in with him there and doing this again! Thank you Berto!
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
